ANCIENT CHINESE WARRING STATES JADE SWORD CHAPE

DESCRIPTION:
Super high quality Jade chape. This piece would have been at the bottom end of a sword scabbard. The scabbard would have been made of wood and decorated with either lacquers, paints, or appliqué material such as leather. At the bottom there would have been a pin that fits into the holes that are at the top of this piece.
It has a Taotie Mask design on one side and scrolled Archaic motif on the other. The carving is World Class, the color is beautiful, and it exhibits excellent old polish and appropriate patination.
Warring States Period, 475 B.C – 221 B.C.
Beautiful green, white, and smoky brown jade.
Measures 2 1/4″ Wide x 1 7/16″ Long

Jackson’s On Main History:
Our business was established in 1966 by Claude and William Jackson, father and son, in Hollywood, California. Claude Jackson (now deceased) was a well known West Coast artist who executed numerous fine works many depicting the great movie stars of early Hollywood. Several of his works have been published and those originals now reside in the collections of various noted individuals and institutions. Most notable probably is his depiction of Marilyn Monroe in his ‘Red Kimono’, 1975, published as the centerfold in Roger Taylor’s anthology

(1984). For years we operated as a mail order fine art distribution firm selling posters and other contemporary multiples. As time passed we diversified and grew and now we maintain a 3,000 square foot full service walk-in art and antique Gallery in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.
